On July 3, 1999, my father and I drove up to Wells, Maine so I could show him around the area where our ancestors settled in the 1640's. I had previously visited the area on several occasions and, on a couple of those visits, attempted to find (without any luck) the graveyard where David Littlefield (Francis Jr., Edmund) and some of his family is believed to be buried along the Harrisekett Road near the Wells/Kennebunk town lines. On those attempts, I had some help from Charles Seaman, publisher of the Littlefield Family Newsletter, but even with his knowledge of the area, we couldn't pinpoint the exact location of the graveyard.

Finally, on this trip with my dad, I decided that I would find it. I drove with him to the end of Harrisekett Road, turned around and started driving back. I had seen the map of the graveyard's location at the Wells/Ogunquit Historical Society, so I knew the approximate location. Once we got closer to that location, I slowed down and pulled over as best as I could until I caught a glimpse of a wooden fence that fit the description given in the map. I back up and parked the car on the south side of the road. I looked around for landmarks and noted that we were across the street from and right in between the 385 and the 401 houses on Harrisekett.

These photos turned out much darker than we anticipated (actually, they look somewhat lighter on a Mac than a PC, don't ask me why), so another trip is needed to get better shots. I also seem to remember the photos on file at the W/OHS showing a clearer opening than what we encountered. The area we went into had a lot of overgrowth on it, so it may just look different because the photos at the W/OHS are older.

If anyone can confirm whether or not this is, in fact the correct cemetery, I would appreciate hearing from you!
